Rakow Road Reconstruction
Complete reconstruction of 3 miles of a 2 lane road, to a 5-7 lane highway. Job includes pavement removal, earth excavation, PCC concrete base, asphalt surface, retaining walls and underground utilities. This is a 2 year project on a very busy roadway in Crystal Lake. To ease congestion we have performed portions of the work at night. We also had to work around numerous utility conflicts and very wet weather conditions.
Algonquin Road Reconstruction:
Complete reconstruction of 2 miles of a two lane highway to a 4 lane rural/urban highway. Project is from Huntley to Lake in the Hills. Included in the project is complete removal and recycling of the old 2 lane pavement. New construction includes new four lane pavement with a concrete base and asphalt wearing surface. Traffic signals for multiple intersections and new water mains, storms, and sanitary sewer systems are also included. Utility conflicts posed a challenge during this project. To complete the project on time, Curran worked with and alongside the utility contractors to keep the delays to a minimum.
Navy Military Housing Midwest Privatization Project:
The project includes revitalization of military neighborhoods at Great Lakes (Forrestal Village), Ft. Sheridan, and Glenview Naval. The design/build project consists of demolition of existing neighborhoods including all roadways, and above and below ground utilities. Also included is asbestos abatement, contaminated soil removal, and recycling of all concrete for new construction. Working with the owners (Forest City Development US Navy) Curran implemented through design/build the redevelopment of 750 new homes. This project had a three-year contract duration. Coordination of the demolition of old residences and infrastructure and completion of new homes (by another contractor) were critical to maintain housing of the military personnel. Construction and demolition schedules were required to be very tight and inflexible to achieve this task.
Target Distribution Center:
Construction of hot mix asphalt roads, parking lots, and loading docks, for the 1,400,000 square foot Target Distribution Center. Project included parking for over 1000 semi trailers plus an employee parking lot. This project was completed without delays using multiple crews. A portion of the work was done by working two shifts to keep the project on schedule.
Northland Plaza shopping center rehabilitation:
This project was the rehabilitation of a 40 year old parking lot with multiple anchor stores and out lots. This was a two year project. Curran performed the stone base and asphalt pavement for this project. The schedule was very critical for project completion. Due to cold fall weather the final asphalt surface was delayed over the winter to allow for warmer weather. Many of the stores opened during the winter with the parking lot consisting of only the binder layer. To keep disruption of shoppers to a minimum we worked with the owner and general contractor and agreed to pave the final surface course at night when the stores were closed. This kept the store managers, shoppers, and general contractor happy and allowed us to complete our work with a minimum of problems.
